DPE National Leadership Award:

Dr. Peter F. Meggison (National Chapter), 1998-1999 National President of Delta Pi Epsilon, was awarded the 2009 National Leadership Award. Dr. Meggison is a professor and chair of the Computer Technology and Information Management Department at Massasoit Community College. This award was established to recognize a DPE member for outstanding leadership and service to the national organization and the profession. The recipient exemplifies a commitment to promoting scholarship, leadership, and cooperation among professionals in education for business through leadership at the national level.

He has written numerous articles in yearbooks and professional journals on various facets of teaching business subjects and has spoken to professional audiences in over 70 locations throughout the country. Dr. Meggison's contributions to Delta Pi Epsilon are numerous and have covered a wide span of time. He served on the DPE National Executive Board from 1992-2001. In addition he has served on numerous committees of the Society, has served on the editorial board of The Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, and has served as president of the Delta Pi Epsilon Research Foundation, Inc. Dr. Meggison currently serves as liaison for the Delta Pi Epsilon and National Business Education Association affiliation. He is chair of the 75th Anniversary Committee, and has recently edited Delta Pi Epsilon newest publication, Case Studies in Computer Ethics (2010).


Woodward Chapter Leadership Award:

Patricia King was recognized as the 2009 Theodore Woodward Chapter Leadership Award recipient for her service to Beta Theta Chapter (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) and Beta Sigma Chapter (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire). Ms. King's professional experience includes 10 years of teaching at Waukesha (WI) South High School, 5 years as a communications specialist for GE Medical Systems' MRI Marketing Department, and 18 years of teaching at Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville, WI. Since retiring in May, 2007, she has continued involvement with Delta Pi Epsilon.

Ms. King has been a member of Delta Pi Epsilon for over 30 years. During this time she has been extremely active in a variety of DPE chapter activities and held varied leadership roles. She received her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where she was president of Beta Sigma Chapter, 1978-1979. In 2007 she transferred her membership to Beta Theta Chapter, where she received her undergraduate degree. She has served as vice-president of Beta Theta Chapter, has chaired the service project, "Are You Smarter than a Business Education Student?," and currently serves as newsletter editor of the Beta Theta Educata.

Master’s Research Award:

Ursela Gavin Jones was the recipient of the 2009 Delta Pi Epsilon Master's Research Award, presented for her thesis titled, Performance of At-Risk Students in Business Education. Her research was conducted at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University at Greensboro, North Carolina, under the direction of Dr. Beryl McEwen.


Independent Research Award:

Dr. Lynette Molstad Gorder (National Chapter), Dakota State University, was the recipient of the 2009 Delta Pi Epsilon Independent Research Award, presented for the best research that advances any area of business education published in any review board or editor refereed journal. The award was presented for her article, "A Study of Teacher Perceptions of Instructional Technology Integration in the Classroom," published in The Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, Vol. L, Issue 2, pp. 63-76.


National Conference Outstanding Paper Awards:

Dr. Judith Lambrecht (Phi Chapter), professor emeritus, University of Minnesota, and Dr. Cyril Kesten (Omicron Chapter), University of Regina, were the recipients of the Outstanding Research Paper Award, for the paper titled, "Future Directions of Business Education: A Delphi Study."


Dr. Carol Blaszczynski (Delta Kappa Chapter), California State University, L.A., and Dr. Diana Green (National Chapter), Weber State University, were the recipients of the Innovative Instructional Practices Award, for the paper titled, "Better than 'Winging It': Strategies and Activities for Developing Presentation Confidence."

Delta Pi Epsilon is a national graduate honorary society for professionals who support and promote scholarship, leadership, and cooperation toward the advancement of education for and about business. Delta Pi Epsilon was established in 1936 at New York University and presently is made up of members affiliated with over 60 university and state-based chapters. Members advance quality education and refine pedagogy though research and instructional development activities.
