Marcia A.
Anderson, Ph.D., a native of
Nebraska, is currently professor
emeriti, Workforce Education and
Development, Sothern Illinois
University Carbondale. She received
her undergraduate degree in
secondary education at Midland
Lutheran College, Fremont, Nebraska,
and continued her education at the
University of Nebraska Lincoln,
where she received a master’s degree
in secondary education. Her
doctorate in occupational education
was received from Southern Illinois
University at Carbondale. Her
teaching experience began at the
secondary level as an instructor at
Stromsburg Senior High School,
Stromsburg, Nebraska, and then at
Millard Lefler Junior High School
and East High School, Lincoln,
Nebraska, and Lincoln School of
Commerce, Lincoln, Nebraska. Dr.
Anderson entered the doctoral
program at Southern Illinois
University at Carbondale in the
early 70s, where she first served as
instructor in the Department of
Business Education. She received her
doctorate in occupational education
at Southern Illinois University at
Carbondale and continued her
professional career there, moving
to professor and
coordinator/director of business
education and graduate programs in
workforce education and development.
Dr. Anderson
has chaired 66 doctoral committees
and 160 master’s committees. Under
her direction five
dissertations/theses have received
awards: three Delta Pi Epsilon
doctoral research awards, one Delta
Pi Epsilon Master’s Research Award,
and one Illinois Business Education
Association dissertation award. In
addition, Dr. Anderson herself has
received four research paper awards
from Delta Pi Epsilon. During her
career, she has made over 25
presentations at Delta Pi Epsilon
conferences.
In 2004 Dr.
Anderson received the John Robert
Gregg Award, the highest recognition
in business education. Over the
years she has received numerous
other awards and recognitions such
as the Distinguished Service Award
from the North-Central Business
Education Association, the
Outstanding Service Award from the
National Association of Teacher
Educators for Business Education,
and the Award of Merit from the
Business Education Division of the
Association for Career and Technical
Education.
Dr. Anderson’s
professional service in Delta Pi
Epsilon spans all facets of the
Society. She organized and served as
advisor for Beta Omicron Chapter of
Delta Pi Epsilon, Southern Illinois
University Carbondale. She has
served on numerous DPE national
committees, such as the National
Membership Committee and the
National Strategic Planning Task
Force. She directed the 1994 DPE
National Conference in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and has served as
secretary, treasurer, and president
of the Delta Pi Epsilon Research
Foundation, Inc. She represented
Delta Pi Epsilon on the Policies
Commission for Business and
Economics Education, which she
chaired in 2004. She has served as
editorial board member of The
Delta Pi Epsilon Journal and as
reviewer for Delta Pi Epsilon awards
and research programs. Dr. Anderson
served as national president of
Delta Pi Epsilon in 2000-2001. Her
continued commitment to the Society
is reflected in her contribution
which were instrumental in the
affiliation of Delta Pi Epsilon with
the National Business Education
Association.
